This week Matthews witnessed a storm unlike any seen in decades! A tornado touched down in various locations in Matthews. Extremely high winds and rain did the rest of the damage. Massive trees fell, cutting power lines and splitting houses in half! Rooftops got blown away, windows broken, the damage can be seen throughout Matthews.
As a result, many downtown merchants had to close for up to three days due to a lack of power. If you are going to spend any money this week, please spend it in downtown Matthews. Not only did local, small businesses lose three days of revenue, our employees…many of whom are part-time or work in the service industry, lost up to three days of wages! So please tip heavily too as these employees depend on your generosity to make a living. The following businesses definitely lost 1-3 days worth of business this week:
The Royal Café & Creperie
Carolina Beer Temple
The Black Chicken Market
Moe’s Original BBQ
Nails 3 Salon
Kristopher’s Restaurant & Sports Bar
Jekyll & Hyde Tap House & Grill
Umami Sushi & Japanese Restaurant
The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Seaboard Taproom & Wine Bar
The Exchange Pizza Depot
Temple Mojo Growler Shop
Matthews Help Center
Sante Fine Dining
Mac’s Speed Shop
The Portrait Gallery
And many more…
If the business was located in or near downtown Matthews they lost business and employees lost wages. To make matters even worse, due to the extended power outage at some locations, restaurants had to trash food because they could not keep it refrigerated – often resulting in $100’s to $1,000’s of dollars in expense!
So please support your local Matthews’ businesses and tip well for our local employees!
Cheers & Thank you!
